Ballymena Runners shine at Sperrin Winter Trail Series and in Winter XC League

Ballymena Runners Prize winners at Sperrin Winter Trail Series

Ballymena Runners have a proud history of supporting the Sperrin Harriers annual Winter Trail Series, and the popular series of off-road racing events ended at the weekend.

The overall series results saw Ballymena Runners scooping a number of prizes. In the men’s event, Jason Wilson was 3rd overall in the open event, and came 2nd in the Male 30-39 category. Timothy Bamber also finished in the top ten.

Club stalwart Mark Alexander won the 1st place prize in the Male 50-59 category and 9th in the male open overall.

 

William Fleck had a top ten finish in the Male 40-49 category, alongside Nigel Bonar, with Billy Bamber finishing 5th in the Male over 60 category.

In the women’s overall results Naomi Hutchinson won 1st prize in the Female 30-39 category and was 6th overall in the women’s open.

Alison Foster picked up 4th place in the Female 40-49 category, closely followed by Noeleen McKillop finishing 5th.

Linda Pettigrew came 2nd in the female 50-59 category and 10th place overall in the women’s open. Also, in the Female 50-59 category Denise Doherty finished 5th with Lorraine Craig also securing a top ten finish.

 

Parkanaur 10 mile

The final race in the series was at Parkanaur on Saturday.

Jason Wilson was overall third place in a time of 1:03:02, with Mark Alexander not far behind and taking second place in the Male 50-59 Age Category in a time of 1:08:20

AthleticsNI Winter Cross Country League

The final cross country league race of the nine-race season took place at Gransha in the Northwest on Saturday. The event also included the Northern Ireland Club Team Championships.

Kiernan Scullion was the first Ballymena Runner to finish, closely followed by John Nicholson and John Hasson. The 12k event included many of the top local athletes on the roads and track, with Annadale Striders taking the team title from North Belfast Harriers in a very close team battle.

In the lady’s event Sinéad Scullion was first Ballymena Runners finisher with Aine Hasson running strongly too.
