Park runners remember Aisling Murphy

Ballymena Runners joined local park runners on Saturday morning at the Ecos park and nature reserve for the usual weekly parkrun.

Runners held a minute’s silence at the start of the parkrun as a mark of respect for Aishling Murphy and in support for her family, friends, and pupils.

The Ecos parkrun is a free, fun, and friendly weekly 5k community event, where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer, or spectate – it's up to you! It takes place every Saturday morning at 9:30am.

To date there have been 414 events, over a ten-year period, with 6,547 individual entrants making up a total of 54,698 finishes! The average number of finishers per week is 132. The event is supported by volunteers who help organise, marshal, and record each event. To date there have been more than 550 individual volunteers.

The female record is held by Gemma McDonald in 18:31 at Event 312 (22 Sep 2018) and the male record is held by Mark McKinstry in a time of 15:07 at Event 335 (23 Mar 2019).
