Race Over The Glens

Ballymena Runners iconic 'Race Over The Glens' event is usually held each year on New Year's Day. Due to covid restrictions the 2021 event was postponed until today.

ROTG history was made with Jarlath Falls (Ballymena & Antrim AC) winning the event for an incredible 10th time!

Men's Open podium places

•       1st Jarlath Falls (38) 36:19

•       2nd Rory McMullan (117) 36:59

•       3rd Daniel Molloy (124) 37:08

 Women's podium places

•       1st Niamh Marrs (85) 45:36

•       2ndCathy McCourt (101) 45:49

•       3rd Paula McCarthy (97) 46:11.

In all 129 runners completed the challenging 6 mile course with over 1,00 feet of climbing.

Although the event was held in mid-August at times it felt like New Year's Day with the mist and heavy rain making the course more difficult.

The course was designed by Course Director Mark Alexander to take in the iconic Glenariff Glen Forest Park, including the top ridge of the mountain, Laragh Lodge, and the historic waterfalls with a difficult uphill finish to the carpark and visitors centre.

Overall management of the event was by Race Director Matthew Allen, ably assisted by an army of volunteers from the club - huge thanks to every one of our magnificent volunteers who helped make the event a success!

We also want to thank Ambutan for on course first aid provision, NI Forestry Service, and the good folks at the Glenariff Tea Rooms.

Special mention to our Race announcer Davy McKibben and Patrick and his team at Chip Timing.
