Weekly report w/e 8th December 2019

Susanna Allen selected for international duty
Congratulations Susanna Allen on her selection for the Northern Ireland & Ulster team for the Anglo-Celtic 100k Home Countries international meeting due to be held in spring next year.

Susanna will be testing herself against the best ultra runners across the British Isles and is, of course, the club 24-hour record holder having covered 116.04 miles at the Energia 24 event held at Belfast's Victoria Park back in June.

Race Over The Glens training
Runners are reminded there are only two weeks left of official club Sunday morning training for the Race Over The Glens on New Years Day at Glenariff Forest.

The club offers four leader led groups to ensure all paces and abilities are accommodated. All clubs and unattached runners are also welcome.

Please dress appropriately (bring or wear full body cover) as the forest park in winter can be quite exposed and we have had everything from sun to snow in previous years! Whilst trails are relatively 'clean' trail shoes are advisable.

Dogs are welcome but restricted to the front of group 1 or the rear of group 4 to ensure everyone's safety and must be under control. Finally, please bring a flask and stay for a cup a tea afterwards if your time allows.

A car share service is in operation leaving race sponsors Connolly's Spar Doury Road at 8:30am (training begins at 9am).

Ballymena Runners Santa Run 2019
Picture the scene ... it's the Thursday night before Christmas, the town is buzzing with shoppers looking for the perfect last-minute gift and a group of 100 Santas is running up Wellington Street.

That's right, it's time for the Ballymena Runners' annual charity Santa Run!

Club members Catherine and Jim Stewart are organising the fundraising for this year's event in aid of the Friends Of The Cancer Centre. Friends Of The Cancer Centre relies entirely on the generosity of the local community and all money donated to the charity stays in Northern Ireland, directly benefiting patients and their families.

Catherine and Jim are calling on all you Santa-wannabes to get yourselves organised with a bright new Santa suit and start practicing your Ho-Ho-Hos in time for the event! They are selling the suits at club training on Monday nights and at parkrun every Saturday morning. Feel free to involve your friends too!
