54th Dunboyne 10k Road Race

More than 1800 registered for the Dunboyne 10k Road Race on 23 March. It’s now in its 54th year.

This was also the Athletics Ireland National 10k Championships with individual and masters titles up for grabs.

“Attracting athletes from all over the country the Dunboyne 10k Road Race prides itself on the race experience it provides for all runners. Whilst the big guns played it out for honours at the front, there were 1438 athletes crossing the finish line on the day, ranging from top club standard right through to those C25K athletes, who in January set their sights on completing their first race over any distance and have since expanded their goals running their first 10k with distinction”

There were 1438 finishers on the day (587 Women and 846 Men) with a huge depth of club athletes at the front of both the men's and women's races, a host of fantastic walkers and joggers, and everyone in between.

Two club members travelled to Co Meath for this prestigious event and with a course Personal best for Elaine and a lifetime 10K PB for Kieran there was plenty to celebrate at the post race refreshments laid on by Dunboyne AC at the finish line.

Pat Dunbar Memorial Mountain Race - NIIMRA Championship!

On Saturday 29 March Jason Wilson, William Fleck, Mark Alexander, James McLornan, Duncan Millar and Jimmy Graham travelled to the southern Mournes to compete in the next race of the Northern Ireland Mountain Running (NIMRA) Championships.

This race, superbly promoted by race director Paul Le Blanc and Newry AC, saw athletes compete over 8 mile (13k) with 2,000 feet (680m) of climbing.

The race started at Leitrim Lodge, headed south along the Mourne Way before turning and heading east and then north into the open mountains.

The fast and runnable course, although impacted by tough conditions this year, took in Tievedockaragh, Pierce's Castle and Rocky before a sharp descent back to Leitrim Lodge.

All six athletes equipped themselves well over this testing championship course.

A special mention for Duncan for the exquisite homemade black pudding and spring onion sausage rolls!

Thank you to NEWRY AC for a fantastic race and to all the course marshals and supporters.
