Huge weekend for Ballymena Runners!

Women’s Team excel at Mary Peters Celebration

Ballymena Runners entered a strong women’s team in the 3000m Team Race at the Mary Peters 50th Gold Medal Anniversary Belfast International Meet. The 2022 Meet event was a celebration event for Lady Mary Peters 50th Anniversary of her Gold Olympic Medal.

Eimear Nichol (10:08:96) finished third at the Women’s 3000m team event with Kerry Bamber in forth (10:17:18) and Geraldine Quigley (12:04:15) in 10th place.  The Ballymena runners finished behind Annadale Striders pair Hannah Gilliland (9:44:66) and Robyn McKee (9:54:68).

 Along the way Eimear smashed the club’s 3000m record previously held by team mate Kerry Bamber (10:11:59)

Big turnout form Ballymena Runners at the Ballyclare May Fair Races

John Robinson was the first to finish in the 5k event in a time of 17:56, followed by Robert Clyde in 19:47. Debbie Watters was the first female Ballymena Runner to finish in 22:42.

Also running were Sarah Woods (24:19)  Kay Thompson (25:08) Catherine Stewart (25:50) Annette Ewing (27:04) Siobhan Blair (27:12) Elizabeth Speedy (28:58) Maxine Harris (35:44) and Sandra Ross (35:44).

 In the 10k race James Hamilton finished in overall second place in a time of 27:18 closely followed by Tony Scullion ((37:18) and club stalwart Jim Moore (39:49).

The guys were followed by Timothy Bamber (42:14) Sharon Leetch (47:52) and pacing alongside her daughter Hannah. Next to finish were Jim Stewart (48:09) Paul Thompson (48:21) Billy Bamber (50:07) Paddy Millar (51:11) Heather McKelvey (52:22) Pamela Davis (53:39) Carmel McHugh (56:38) Alana Cameron (56:38) Roy White (56:37) Stephanie Johnston (57:38) Lorraine Craig (58:24) and club veteran Brigid Quinn (1:03:12).

Edinburgh Marathon

Well done to club members Denise Doherty and Noeleen McKillop who travelled to Scotland to complete the 2022 Edinburgh Marathon.

Newry Half Marathon.

Club members Hall Booth, Elle Forrest and John McGerty made the trip to Newry to complete the Newry Half Marathon event. Elle posted a finish time of 1:38:47 followed by Hall in 1:39:11, and John hitting his target of a sub 2 hour run in a time of 1:57:04.

Ballymena Runners continue to perform well in the Mournes.

Well done to everyone who completed the 6th Hill and Dale event - Luke's Mountain.

Athletes raced over a technically challenging 7km /500m course taking in Slievenaglogh and Luke's mountain before returning to the start at Meelmore Lodge.

Sean Hasson posts ‘personal best’ at Ecos parkrun

First to finish this weekend’s parkrun at Ecos was Ballymena Runners club member Sean Hasson in a time of 18:54 the first of 18 'PBs'

In all 138 ran, jog, and walked the 5k course around Ecos.

Sunday morning Training Run

The club’s Sunday morning run headed to Antrim Loughshore this week.

From Loughshore runners followed Sixmile Water to the Castle Gardens for one loop and then out onto Ballymena Rd, Stiles Way, and Steeple Road

A visit to Round Tower, and return to Steeple Road before heading to Station Road and into Antrim town.

Runners then headed down Riverside to pick up the Mill Race Trail and follow it to Oldstone Road. After a run along Tirgracy Road, and Dublin Road runners headed down the path into Rea’s wood and back to start for tea and buns!
