Mourne Mountain Marathon
BRAC had four competitors in the Mourne Mountain Marathon at the weekend. James Turner and Jonny McCloy took part in the B class where competitors work in pairs for two days navigating to controls dotted across the Mourne Mountains, carrying all the kit they need to camp out overnight. Jonny & James finished first team in their class, covering 30 miles and 8,000ft climb on the tough terrain of the Western Mournes.
Ruth Aiken and Gillian Wasson took part in the one day score event. In this event, competitors again compete in pairs to navigate to as many controls as possible within 6 hours. In their first go at this type of event, Ruth and Gillian finished fourth ladies team, covering almost 12 miles and 4000 ft climb.
Ecos Parkrun
Ballymena Runners AC continue to support our local parkrun at Ecos Nature Centre. On Saturday we held our 397th event.
Well done to Shane Donnelly - first to finish in a time of 17:44.
Parkrun is not a race but an opportunity to get out among friends on a Saturday morning. 20 runners achieved their PBs this week, including 6 of our Junior participants.
As well as local individual runners and families, we had a strong turnout from our local club Ballymena Runners AC.
We also welcomed visitors from North Belfast Harriers, Springwell, Ballycastle Runners, Moneyglass and District Runners, Lagan Valley Orienteers and Jog Scotland.
We were delighted to welcome Parkrun Ambassador Rosy Ryan, pictured here with Run Director Catherine Stewart, volunteer Jim Stewart, and Ballymena Runners Club Chairman Stephen Brown, and Club Secretary Alastair Donaghy. Rosy Ryan also completed the course and took the time to talk to today's volunteers after the event.
In all 146 walked, jogged and ran around the Ecos parkrun course on a cool and misty morning.
