Ballymena Runners had an outstanding weekend with club members competing in a range of marathons.
Mountain Marathons in the Mournes, partnering our local parkrun, the return of the Belfast Marathon with first timers and pb's galore! and the 'big one' . . . the London Marathon with first timers, pb's and club records smashed! as well as our 'Iron Men' in Barcelona!
It's always great to see that when club member are out competing, there is an army of club members out on the course marshalling, supporting, cheering and encouraging!
Sharon Leetch smashed the Club Ladies' Marathon Record, finishing the London Marathon in an incredible time of 3 hours 5 minutes! Sharon took over 5 minutes off her own club record of 3:10 (Dublin 2018). She is pictured here with John Hasson who finished with a PB of 3:03:29.
On Saturday club members completed the Mourne ‘Skyline’ mountain marathon which involved over 11,000 feet of climbing. As well as completing the gruelling course club members assisted with marshalling the event. Well done to Robin Alexander and Stephen Reid.
The weekend also saw the return of the Belfast Marathon with an impressive turnout from the club – with many runners completing their first marathon.
Belfast saw club member Debbie Watters finishing her first marathon in a time of 4 hours 2 minutes. Credit to her brother, and Ballymena Runners Committee member Jim Moore for pacing her around the course.
Club Captain Chris Young and club member Nigel Bonar also completed the Barcelona Ironman Triathlon.
