Ballymena Runners at Cross Country Championships

The club had some great performances at the latest NI Cross Country Championships event, the Bobby Rea XC.

First to represent the club in the Women’s race over 6km was Sinead Scullion (28:02).

This was followed by the men’s 8km race with club performances by James Hamilton (Male Open) in a time of 26:53, Pawel Lapinski (Male Over 35) in 31:25. John Hasson (Male over 50) in 31:54, and Kieran Scullion (Male over 40) in a time of 31:59.

The next cross country ‘target race’ is Ballyclare on November 6th.

 

Ballymena Runners at Shane’s Castle Festival of Running

Also at the weekend the club headed to Randalstown for the ‘Shane’s Castle Festival of Running’ with events over Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10k distances around the castle parkland.

In the Marathon the club were represented by Vincent Leighton, who finished with an impressive time of 3 hours 17 minutes. Also in the Marathon was Noeleen McKillop.

In the Half Marathon the club were represented by James McCann first home in a time of 1 hour 29 minutes. First club women to finish was Elle Forest, coming back from injury so a finish time of 1 hour 45 minutes was a great performance.

Also completing the Half Marathon were Emma Lamberton, George Buckley, Scott Fleming, Francis McGuigan, Barbara Crawford, Victoria Ratner, Teresa Mark, John McGerty, Harry Armstrong, and Alana Cameron.

The club also had an impressive turnout in the 10k race with Robert Clyde first to finish in a time of 42:32, closely followed by Paul Connolly in 43:05.

First women to finish for the club, and taking the third place prize, was Trish McCrory with a respectable time of 54 minutes. Also completing the tough 10k course were Sara Beggs, club stalwart Roy White, Elizabeth Speedy and Laura McMullan.

It’s also time again to consider the election of Club Captains for 2021/2022. The club greatly appreciate the contribution that Emma Donnelly and Linda Pettigrew have made as Women’s Captain, and Women’s Vice Captain, and Chris Young and Ben Morrow as Men’s Captain, and Men’s Vice Captain. We know that all club members appreciate what they have done for the club in a very difficult time during the last two years.
