Virtual Fairhill Five raises £2000

It has been an incredible week for Ballymena Runners with almost 150 club members, friends and family members, as well as friends form other running clubs taking part in this year’s ‘virtual’ Fairhill Five Mile Run.

The club asked members to go out and run five miles (the distance of the original race) either in one run or spread across a number of runs during the week. Members were then asked to send us a picture in club colours and a ‘high five’. These pictures and updates were posted on a daily basis on the clubs Facebook page, managed by Club Coach and Committee member, Mark Alexander.

We know how tough the Covid-19 crisis has been on charities, so we felt that it would be a great idea to hold a virtual event around the date of the race to raise some funds for charity. The Club Committee had previously agreed to accept club runner Leon Dorrity’s nominated charity – the Mae Murray Foundation - which helps to allow people of all ages and abilities to take part in activities, experience the world, and enjoy friendship together in an inclusive environment.

Leon said:

“I want to thank everyone who has taken part in this week’s virtual event. Thank you for your support and donations to the Mae Murray Foundation. I am so pleased that we as a club have been able to help the Foundation.”
