Tempo running boosts your body’s lactate threshold meaning your body becomes better at removing lactate from those tired leg muscles. The benefit of this is that the faster you can run while still clearing lactate, the faster you’ll be able to race! Tempo running also teaches you to tolerate more discomfort and develop mental toughness. For runners this is an extremely valuable skill.
Although formal training is suspended we still want folk to have the opportunity to do some tempo training. We have put together a 4 week programme starting 14 December. It’s got the who, what, when, where and how for a tempo training session.
