Race Reports w/e 20th May 2018

Coast 2 Coast Mountain Race
Congratulations to Alastair Hill who finished the 'Coast 2 Coast' Mountain Race on Sunday, a 32km challenge from Kilbroney Park, Rostrevor to the finish in Newcastle.

The route included an ascent of Slieve Donard with Alastair completing the course in an impressive 5:07:32. Well done Alastair!

Scarvagh House Trail Race
On Saturday four Ballymena Runners travelled to Scarvagh House, Scarva for a 10k trail race in aid of Guide Dogs NI.

Teresa Mark and Harry Armstrong completed the sun splashed off-road and scenic course in 1:05:03, with Nikki Hassan and Sharon Speers coming home just a few minutes later.

Les Jones Memorial 10k
The action continued on Friday night with the latest instalment in the Novosco Grand Prix series, the Les Jones Memorial 10k.

Beginning and ending on the Mary Peters Track, a wealth of athletic talent also took on the Lagan Towpath towards Shaws Bridge before negotiating the infamous climb in Barnetts Demesne.

John Robinson led the Ballymena Runners charge at the event, clocking a time of 38:31 to finish in 14th spot overall. Also donning club colours were Conor Daly (1:00:23), Lynsey Gordon (55:19), Brigid Quinn (1:00:36) and Roy White (53:21).

Hill & Dale Series - Race 5
The Hill & Dale series hosted by Newcastle AC reached the halfway stage on Thursday evening with the fifth race in the schedule, 'Rocky', which was 4.25 miles in length and included an ascent of around 1600 feet over one of the most picturesque parts of the Mournes.

No fewer than a dozen Ballymena Runners made the journey to compete in the race, a club record, with Connor Reid the first to cross the line in, finishing 24th in 38:02.

Connor was just ahead of Mark Alexander (39:14) and Tim Lowry (40:09) whilst Gillian Wasson recorded a time of 40:35 to finish 3rd Lady overall.

Also representing the club were Mairead Agnew, Ruth Aiken, Adrian Dodds, Alastair Donaghy, Emma Donnelly, William Fleck, Joseph McDermott and Neil Purvis.

Foyle Valley Wilkies 5 Mile Classic
Catherine O'Boyle was the sole club representative out of 179 athletes at the Wilkies 5 Mile Classic, hosted by Foyle Valley AC, on Thursday night, producing a strong performance to finish in 43:03.
