Hello folks! This week’s Mail Out is brief because we want to focus on 2 key events. But before that - good luck to all club members running the Lurig Challenge tomorrow - get up (and down) safe!
Monday 15th August BRAC Charity Handicap Race (please note there will be no Monday night Club Training) This event is all about getting together socialising and raising a few quid for Charity. We know some of you are racing or training for a specific goal, a fast 5k will not suit everyone's schedule, so please just turn up, jog round at whatever pace suits you. The course will be the Ecos Parkrun running the same direction as the Saturday run. It’s all about supporting this year’s charity which is the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice:
The coaching committee need your time to plan the evening, please help them and email your 5k time by replying to this email, or submitting here.
For those of you who have not run this fantastic event we use your 5km time and then we point a handicap from the slowest time to the quickest. If everyone is honest and accurate the racebecomes extremely exciting as anyone from the club can cross the line first. Please be at the start area at 6:50 p.m. for a short briefing. There will be light refreshments supplied after the event and trophies presented for 1st, 2nd and 3rd over the line. Judith is coordinating what we need for refreshments so free to bring along something to share - or give us a shout and we can see what we still need. There will be the usual facilities available at the Park Run Hut/Cabin and a Gazebo for kit.
So please come and support (if you are not running) and help us raise some funds for this wonderful charity.
Tuesday 23 August INTER CLUB RACE 7.00pm
Our next big focus as a club is the annual Inter Club Race hosted by Larne AC. This is a fabulous club competition and Ballymena Runners has a history of being extremely successful. It is an out and back course, 4 miles for the ladies and 5 for the men. The fun bit about it is every single runner counts towards the winning team and not just the winners! Last year we won both male and female team prizes as well as 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each category! We are the team to beat! So come on, let’s get entered into this exciting event and remind the other clubs how super we are! The club will make a block entry and issue numbers ourselves so if you are planning to take part please complete the form here or notify Alastair D or Robin. NOTE – the only way to enter is via BRAC!! And please also indicate if you wish to travel on the bus or not.
Folks, we have all been busy with races or working towards our individual targets but this is an event that the club has a long history with. It stirs a lot of passion, particularly among some of the longer serving club members!
Let’s do everything we can to keep that going!
