Fleck's Champ at Spud Run and Ding Dong - Gone!

Fleck's Champ at Spud Run!

Saturday 8th March saw the opening round of the Northern Ireland Mountain Running (NIMRA) Championships in Glenariff Glen, County Antrim with the Glenariff Mountain Race (aka β€˜The Spud Run!”).

Ballymena Runners fielded 8 mountain running athletes for the 6-mile (9.7km) run and 1,200 feet (370m) climb.

In ideal Glenariff Glen conditions, all ran strongly with notable performances from Jason Wilson securing a top 10 position and William Fleck winning his age category (V50).

The race also accommodated a delayed NIMRA / IMRA prize giving due to the recent adverse weather that impacted the intended event.

Once more, Ballymena Runners acquitted themselves well over the 2024 season.

William Fleck and Ruth Aiken won their age categories in the inaugural Irish Mountain Running Association's (IMRA) Ulster Championship.

William Fleck and Mark Alexander came 3rd in their respective age categories in the Northern Ireland Mountain Running Association's Championship (NIMRA).

Thank you to Glens Runners and their sponsors, Glens of Antrim Potatoes, for a fabulously promoted event.

Well done to all our mountain running athletes and we wish them well with the 2025 season!
