The Cosy Sofa will start on Tuesday 14th January at 7.00pm. It is a 9 week programme that’s suitable for everyone. It can help you with your physical and mental health and is a perfect way to meet people and socialise.

Here’s what some of of the people who have done the Cosy Sofa say about it.

Natasha - In 2024 I completed the Cosy Sofa to 5k. A friend sent me the details of the C25K and I nervously signed up just before Christmas  with a promise to myself that I would stick at it, and as the weeks passed I found my confidence increased I loved the social aspect of the programme and meeting new people. I now run (might I add very slowly) in the 30mins group and some weeks when I'm feeling abit more adventurous I try the 45mins. It's something I honestly thought I would never be capable of doing let alone enjoy and I'm so glad I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and signed up. I'm looking forward to many more years of running with the club.

Marlyn - Do I run for the t-shirts? I first signed up for the Cosy Sofa in 2017 but in 2024 I repeated it to get back out running again. The hardest part was putting on the trainers the 1st night. No need to worry- the leaders are FANTASTIC - “friendly and encouraging”. Everyone is made welcome and soon there is chat and craic as friendships develop. My aim was to do the local parkruns and so far I’ve completed 26! If I can get the t- shirt so can you! Go get your trainers on!

Carmel - In 2022 I completed the 5k Program. I was 54 and had never ran before. I did it to get fit and help me socialise after working from home during lockdown. Two years later I am still running.
I am a slow runner. It helps me keep fit and manage stress. I have even recently helped set up a new Parkrun in Portglenone which has added a whole new dimension to my running journey.
I am delighted to be volunteering with the Cosy Sofa. Don’t be afraid you are not fit enough or not fast enough. The cosy sofa is for every body.

Joanne - I completed the c25k when I was 39 having never ran before in my life. What I learned was that running is for all ages & abilities with no judgement. Im a slow runner, always was & always will be - even now 10 years later but I’m ok with that!

Running isn’t just about the exercise, there is a great social side to running which I never anticipated! I have made lots of new friends, have coffee & cake regularly after Parkrun & have nights out with running buddies. There are so many benefits. If you are thinking about it I’d say do come along and give it a go. You have nothing to lose and might find you even enjoy it like me.

Harry - I did the Cosy Sofa about 10 years ago. I did it just to get fitter. Little did I realise then the impact it would have. As will as helping keep fit I have met so many great people and made some very close friends. There’s always such a friendly and positive atmosphere. For me the social aspects of running are very important and I love Saturday morning Parkruns which are a perfect way to start the weekend.

I have helped at Cosy Sofa for a number of years and it’s wonderful and rewarding to help people and see the change in them. The Cosy sofa really is for everyone and it’s about having fun - so come along and give it a go.
