Success for the club on Rathlin, in Longford Marathon, Waterside Half and in the Coastal 5K

We run Rathlin

A number of Ballymena runners braved the weather forecast and made it to the Rathlin island for the 5k and 10 miler on Saturday 24 August.

In the 5k Naomi Hutchinson was 3rd lady (21:58), followed by Noeleen McKillop, David Rainey, and Mairead Agnew.

First home in the 10 miler for Ballymena Runners were husband and wife team Denver and Lynsey Robb followed by Raymond Ruck, Peter Drennan, Francis McGuigan, Teresa Mark, Harry Armstrong, Peter Faith and Terry Foley.

After experiencing the hills, sun, wind, rain, hailstones, and a very rocky return journey, we all made it back. As always this is a well organised race that makes for a great day out.

Vicky Ratner joins club Ladies top 10 Marathon in Longford Marathon

Well done Vicky Ratner who now enters BRAC Ladies Top 10 Marathon times list with a time of 3.43.40 in the Longford Marathon.

Advertised as a friendly marathon in the heart of Ireland, it didn't disappoint! A relatively flat route with the stunning views of the peaceful Irish countryside made the difficult task of marathon running a little easier, as did the hospitality and support of the locals of Longford and the marshals along the way.

The autumnal wind and rain did nothing to dampen the spirits of the participants as we completed the gruelling 26.2 miles across a mix of road and trail.

Thank you to the race organisers and marshals on a successful and well organised event, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Waterside Half 2024

It was great to see Derry City and Strabane Council maintaining a great event which was enjoyed by local and international athletes. 3,000 runners took to the roads and greenways along the Foyle River crossing 5 bridges along the rolling course.

Great racing by BRAC members along with Raymond Ruck and Teresa Mark assisting with pacer duties.

Well done to Elle Forest on the age category win and Colin Wright recording a 27sec pb.

Many of our runners have autumn marathons coming up, so the results are commendable as there was little tapering with Dublin Marathon in 8 weeks time.

  • John Hasson 1.26.38

  • David Jones 1.27.10

  • Colin Wright 1.28.13 PB

  • Ellie Forrest 1.43.22 (F50 winner)

  • Thomas Bradley 1.43.35

  • Aine Hasson 1.46.17

  • Paddy Millar 1.56.06

  • Hugo Carlin 2.00.03

  • Patricia Carruthers 2.09.16

  • Maurice McGarry 2.16.51

  • Pacers Teresa Mark and Raymond Ruck 2.30.00

  • Laura McMullan 2.39.14

Well done to all.

Kathleen Law wins Ladies Costal 5K
Friday evening saw almost 60 club members at the brilliant Coastal 5K run by Glenlough Running Club. Meeting in Glenarm 350 runners were bussed to Carnlough for the fast 5K race back to Glenarm.

Kathleen Law won the ladies race in a brilliant time of 18.27 with Katie Agnew and Geraldine Quigley the 2nd and 3rd BRAC ladies to cross the finish line.

Sean Hasson finished in 6th place in a superb time of 17.11 and was first BRAC runner home closely followed by Brendan Kerr and Daniel Hanna.

It was a great night for the club and the course lived up to its reputation for being fast with Sara Beggs and Laura Surgenor both ringing the bell for PBs.

Medals and a burger ended a great summers evening of racing for everyone.
